My Other Love March 16, 2008

Filed under: technology — JoGJMac @ 8:41 pm

I love my husband so much, that’s a fact. At my age of six decades, i must confess, I have ‘another love’. We’ve been inseparable since the late nineties. My husband, ‘my other love’ and myself have been cohabiting peacefully ever since, and in the same bedroom at that. (more…)

Iya’s MOM February 21, 2008

Filed under: Family — JoGJMac @ 2:25 am

I am the mom of Iya’s mom. Being so, I have a lifetime of stories to tell about Myra Jo (Iya’s mom). For one, like Iya, she’s “uhm, ahh, an ‘angel’…”

She’s the first grandchild, the first niece, to both the Macalua and Javier families. So you could imagine the love, attention and adulation given to her by everyone. Thank God that all those had a positive effect on her. (more…)

“Dual Citizenship” January 21, 2008

Filed under: elderly, privileges — JoGJMac @ 6:07 pm

Last month, friends had only the kindest words - ( “You’re so lucky!” , “Wow!” , “That’s the ultimate Filipino dream!” , ” Wow, i couldn’t believe that you got it without any fuzz!” , etc. etc.) - when i announced that I have dual citizenship now.

How I got it? Very simple. I turned 60 last December 6. I went to the DSWD office in the Isabel Municipal Hall, equipped with my birth certificate, passport and a couple of 1 x 1 ID pictures. I filled up an application form, and voila! (more…)

My family is not lumad (native-born) to this town of Isabel, Leyte. We were uprooted from Orion, Bataan some 25 years ago, when my husband was “pirated” by a giant fertilizer plant situated in the Leyte Industrial Development Estate here.

So many exciting changes are taking place in the town now, (more…)

Help! July 25, 2007

Filed under: topics — JoGJMac @ 6:24 am

I’ve been staring at the pc monitor for about an hour already, trying to figure out what to blog about. I was absent online for more than a month, so my mind is still on vacation mode. That explains my inability to write something of substance.

Would anybody please suggest topics of interest for my next blogs?

Fiesta! June 23, 2007

Filed under: celebration, custom, tradition — JoGJMac @ 6:37 pm

F-I-E-S-T-A ! according to the Grolier International Dictionary, is a religious feast or holiday; especially, a saint’s day celebrated in Spanish-speaking countries.

We don’t speak Spanish? Of course we do! Well, not the Spanish language per se, but Spanish words adapted in the Filipino language, albeit spelled differently: kama, kutsara, palabra, etc.etc.

We were colonized by Spain for over three centuries, so its influence on our culture is very evident. One of those is the holding of fiestas. It usually falls on the feast day of the barangay/town’s patron saint.

Having lived in Luzon (Orion, Bataan) from birth till 1983, and here in the Visayas (LIDE, Isabel, Leyte) from then on till now, I have a good grasp of how fiestas are celebrated in many parts of the country. (more…)

Our national hero June 19, 2007

Filed under: hero, study, nationalism — JoGJMac @ 4:40 pm

“Who is our national hero?” Pose this question to the children in school or to some laymen on the street, I bet that 90 to 95 % of them will give you the correct answer. JOSE RIZAL.

Almost all of us know by heart, that Jose Rizal is our national hero. How many of us, though, know much about his life, works and teachings? (more…)

IYA

Filed under: Family, Thoughts, love — JoGJMac @ 2:49 am

She came to this world a whole month earlier(December 21, 2005) than her Mom’s date with the stork. I remember vividly the anxiety that we felt when we were notified that Myra Jo had to deliver by emergency caesarean section, because of her enclamptic condition. When we reached the hospital, we realized that we were already certified Lolo(Grandfather) and Lola(Grandmother) for there in the nursery incubator was our first grandchild, Laura Sophia M. Hynson. NORBERTO June 14, 2007

Filed under: true-to-life stories, love, compassion, charity — JoGJMac @ 4:04 pm

I love to think that what our high school batch is doing for Norberto, is noble.

Norberto and the rest of us in the batch graduated from Jose Rizal Institute in Orion, Bataan. 44 years ago .

In that span of years, our lives have changed. Some for the better, some for the worst, some have left for the Great Beyond in the prime of their life.

Norberto’s life couldn’t have been anything, but one that could be woven into a telenovela, and make people shed buckets of tears. (more…)
